Last post, I wrote about the joy of being involved and participating in a public art project. The ability of art to change mindset, bring people together, create happiness.

This project designed to connect us with the issue of homelessness and the people who are homeless – challenge our beliefs and in many ways misconceptions of who the homeless are, why they are homeless and how they live.

Unfortunately, the media portrays those without work as ‘dole bludgers’, ‘losers’, ‘parasites’ or they are all on drugs. The misinformation about how easy it is to receive government assistance, and how much people are entitled to has no relationship with reality.

Even changing the name of unemployment benefits to Newstart adds another irony to the heartlessness of the system. We need a rethink not a new start.
